Why are field labels (and not names) shown in csv export

I find it infuriating that after carefully selecting question names for a huge survey so that data analysis would be straightforward, the resulting column names in an exported csv of results are...the field labels. This makes absolutely ZERO sense to me. Does anyone have a solution to change this? I saw this post, but Esri doesn't recommend to mess with the generated feature layer after the survey has been published.

Any ideas? Thanks 🙂

First, I used the workflow: download to gdb -> export as csv, then the field names were correct.

As a more sustainable solution, I connected the feature service to RStudio using R-ArcGIS Bridge. Very practical, though it took some fiddling to set up.

Some users want it the other way too so it goes back and forth.

For me I create workflows where no export is needed. Exporting to CSV loses all the spatial, repeats are harder, etc so I always have whatever the analyst is using direct connect to the service. Is that an option? Our users always defaulted to csv since that is all they know. But we made some Dashboards and they converted pretty quick. Export to CSV is a pretty old workflow.

Note I have been bugging the ArcGIS for Office group for years to allow me to see the data form a service in excel. I even met them in person and they do not get it. They only have the ability to map data that is in excel which is weird. It would be so cool to just add a service URL in excel and see the table.

The other option is the Table to Excel tool in Pro which has lots of options for all of this. You can also script this to export a CSV just how you want it to a dir every night or email it to them.

Just some ideas.

These are good points.

However, I need to complete statistical analysis which doesn't seem to be possible using Esri out of the box tools. But maybe I missed something?
In the end I downloaded as a gdb and then exported to csv as you suggested, thanks.
