Change the order of Feature Service Fields

I have looked online and cannot find an answer. Is there a way to simply reorder the fields in a Feature Service? I have a Feature Service that is exported to an Excel document, then further processed. The order of the fields is important for the next processing step. I now need to add a field to the service. When the data is exported, the field is at the end of the table. I need the field to be between two existing fields.

Short of republishing the whole feature service (and messing with the forms and dashboards associated with it), is there a way to reorder the fields in the service (and not just the visualization, the actual table).

Unfortunately, the short answer is no.  

There are ways of changing the field order in ArcGIS Online, as described in Is it possible to reorder field columns in the attribute table in Map Viewer Classic of ArcGIS Online? but what you want is to reorder the fields in the actual service which cannot be accomplished, as far as I know, unless you reorder the fields in the attribute table of the data source using a method such as described in Permanently reorder fields in a feature class using the Export Features tool in ArcGIS Pro and republishing the service to ArcGIS Online.
