https://pro.arcgis.com/de/pro-app/latest/tool-reference/data-management/add-field.htm is a handy function to add fields. however if a new field is added it always gets added at the end. sometimes it would make sense to add the new field next to another field or at a given position. currently this is only possible if the data is exported to another feature class - which might be a workaround for small feature classes. in feature classes with many many many features this is no workaround.
thus i propose to allow the user to specify if the field should be added at the end (default) or at a given position or after / before a given field.
Thanks for this idea @nadja,
The ability to add columns in specific places will first depend on the ability for us to reorder columns in a database table at all, which is not currently supported. This feature has been long requested on the Community Ideas site. I've linked it below.
ArcGIS should allow the ability to permanently reorder fields in a table
Most major database platforms do not support altering column order, which makes this feature a unique challenge to implement in our software. The linked idea is currently under consideration. We encourage you to share your support there while we continue to determine if this functionality can be implemented.
