The alias for Azure SQL Managed Instance is not working. Suppose, we have an alias i.e. GISDBAZ that points to abc-xyz.database.windows.net on SQL Managed Instance and we hope we can use the alias the same way as if the alias points to a physical computer or virtual machine.

We do not want to use username@abc-xyz.database.windows.net and password; we want to use operating system authentication;

We tried username@abc-xyz.database.windows.net and password even in SQL server management studio, when the alias is used, operating system authentication is not working, and according to Microsoft, this is currently a limitation of managed instance.

ArcGIS does not support the alias with Azure SQL at present, but Esri is looking at testing this again to see what needs to happen in order for ArcGIS to support it.

Is there a timeline for when it will be implemented?

No there isn't one yet. If this idea gest enough kudos, then it can shorten the wait time. The customer can also log a support ticket with Esri Technical Support and request an enhancement request to be created, that also helps to shorten the time the new functionality gets implemented.
