I am working with a shapefile and need to add a new field with a precision and scale. When I open the attribute table add click add field, I can then add a new field.
However when I select, double the precision field and scale are both set to 0 and grayed out. I set the umber formate to numeric but that didn't make any difference.
I eventually went into ArcMap 10.5 and ArcCatalog and was able to add the field, with a precision and scale of 31 and 15 respectively. However that then reverted back to 0 0.
