Exam Purpose

The Enterprise Geodata Management Professional exam tests the skills related to configuration, design, data loading, maintenance, versioning, archiving, tuning, and replication of enterprise geodatabases.

Target Candidate Audience

The Enterprise Geodata Management Professional exam is intended for candidates that typically have four years of applied experience and should be proficient in best practices and uses of ArcGIS related to the structure and function of enterprise geodatabases. Such as:

  • GIS Data Administrators
  • Database Administrators
  • GIS Administrators
  • GIS Analysts
  • GIS Data Managers
  • IT Administrators that work with GIS

Description of Qualified Candidate

The Enterprise Geodata Management Professional exam measures a candidate’s comprehension related to managing an enterprise geodatabase with advanced experience in a multi-user environment. Candidates should be able to understand the functionality and features of a geodatabase such as configuration and versioning.

Candidate Qualifications

A qualified candidate should be able to perform the following tasks:

  • Create and configure a geodatabase
  • Design a geodatabase (e.g., topology, attribute rules)
  • Understand workflows and the impact of each on a database
  • Manage data within a geodatabase or database
  • Perform geodatabase maintenance
  • Design versioning workflows (traditional and branch)
  • Troubleshoot geodatabase issues
  • Troubleshoot distributed data issues
  • Troubleshoot versioning issues
  • Troubleshoot performance issues
  • Implement distributed data workflows
  • Implement and support geodatabase replication
  • Implement feature services to edit data
  • Choose and utilize the appropriate Data Store configuration
  • Use views and SQL statements to access databases directly
  • Understand the different types of backups and the potential for data loss with each
  • Implement geodatabase archiving
  • Migrate or upgrade a geodatabase
  • Query repository tables

The following tasks are considered beyond the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the qualified candidate:

  • Implement RDBMS replication or high availability
  • Configure database storage
  • Install and upgrade RDBMS
  • Troubleshoot system or network performance
  • Perform RDBMS tracing
  • Develop custom applications to access the Enterprise geodatabase
  • Explain the system requirements of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) for use with ArcGIS products
  • Use of specific design tools (e.g., Sparx Enterprise Architect Tool)

A qualified candidate should be familiar with the following:

  • ArcGIS Pro
  • ArcGIS Enterprise

Skills Measured

Candidates should use the exam content sections below as a checklist to identify gaps between their knowledge and the skills measured by the exam. The relative weight indicates the approximate size of each section. It is recommended that preparation be focused in areas where knowledge gaps are found.

Design <Pending Blueprint Survey>

  • Determine the appropriate geodatabase strategy that meets defined requirements
  • Determine the appropriate data association options within a normalized data model
  • Determine the appropriate method to store and serve data
  • Determine the correct versioning workflow
  • Determine the correct data distribution solution using scalability and data synchronization frequency

Configuration <Pending Blueprint Survey>

  • Determine how to create, enable and configure an Enterprise geodatabase
  • Determine the correct data security model implementation
  • Determine the correct distributed data configuration
  • Determine the correct process to manage mobile data workflows
  • Determine the correct data backup, recovery, and retention solutions

Loading, Transferring, and Editing <Pending Blueprint Survey>

  • Determine the steps involved when using different data loading options
  • Determine the appropriate method when using SQL with a geodatabase
  • Determine the correct workflow to migrate or upgrade a geodatabase

Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and Performances <Pending Blueprint Survey>

  • Troubleshoot performance issues with an Enterprise geodatabase
  • Apply concepts to locate and interpret information in geodatabase system tables
  • Determine the appropriate strategy to create and maintain indexes
  • Troubleshoot geodatabase versioning related issues
  • Apply a strategy to administer geodatabase archiving
  • Determine how to resolve a common connection or locking issue
  • Troubleshoot distributed data synchronization issues
  • Troubleshoot advanced geodatabase functionality
  • Troubleshoot application and workflow factors that affect database load and performance
