Exam Purpose

The ArcGIS Pro Associate Exam tests candidates’ experience applying geospatial concepts and processes to workflows. The exam will test candidates’ skills using ArcGIS Pro to manage, analyze, and manipulate geospatial data. It expects the candidates to have at least 2-4 years of applied experience using ArcGIS Pro.

Target Candidate Audience

The ArcGIS Pro Associate 2025 exam is intended for candidates with at least 2-4 years of ArcGIS Pro experience. Potential candidates’ roles could include (but are not limited to) GIS Specialist, GIS Analyst, Senior GIS Analyst, and GIS Programming Specialist.

Description of Qualified Candidate

Qualified candidates should demonstrate proficiency in geospatial (2D/3D) concepts and recommended practices in ArcGIS Pro. The candidate should be able to implement principles of data management, editing features, performing analysis, mapping and visualization, and sharing content across ArcGIS. Passing the exam provides an opportunity for candidates to validate their technical expertise in implementing ArcGIS Pro workflows.

Candidate Qualifications

A qualified candidate should be able to perform the following tasks:

  • Compare and contrast the basic types of geographic data.
  • Convert data from different formats.
  • Manipulate data between different projections.
  • Apply established workflows to correct issues with projections and transformations.
  • Apply map visualization methods and techniques.
  • Apply local and global raster functions.
  • Construct a map using available datasets and services.
  • Work with layer properties and tables.
  • Author expressions (such as SQL, Python, Arcade, VBScript) from a list of available functions.
  • Manipulate time-enabled data.
  • Perform editing.
  • Share data across ArcGIS.
  • Perform spatial analysis.
  • Select appropriate geoprocessing environment settings for a given scenario.
  • Evaluate the suitability of a dataset for a given scenario.
  • Use existing models, scripts, script tools, and/or notebooks.
  • Create a model for a repeatable process.
  • Use ArcGIS Pro Tasks.

The following tasks are considered beyond the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the qualified candidate:

  • Administer a database.
  • Administer ArcGIS Enterprise.
  • Author Tasks.
  • Troubleshoot computer/network systems upon which ArcGIS Pro is implemented.
  • Interpret complex Python programming.

A qualified candidate should be familiar with the following:

  • ArcGIS Pro 3.3

Skills Measured

Candidates should use the exam content sections below as a checklist to identify gaps between their knowledge and the skills measured by the exam. The relative weight indicates the approximate size of each section. It is recommended that preparation be focused in areas where knowledge gaps are found.

Data Management 32%

  • Manage geospatial data (raster, vector, tabular).
  • Manage coordinate systems to preserve the desired spatial properties.
  • Given a scenario, determine the appropriate existing geodatabase elements to use.
  • Use ArcGIS Pro editing functionality to create, modify, and delete features and attributes.

Visualization 25%

  • Identify how to control the coordinate system and geographic transformation in ArcGIS Pro.
  • Manage layer properties using the ribbon and dialog boxes.
  • Determine how to visualize temporal, ranged, or 3D data.
  • Given a scenario, apply a query.

Layouts and Sharing 18%

  • Identify how to export data, maps, and scenes to different formats.
  • Choose how to share content from ArcGIS Pro.
  • Determine how to create and manage map layouts and map series.

Analysis and Geoprocessing 25%

  • Compare the functionality of table joins and relates, relationship classes, and spatial joins.
  • Given a scenario, determine the appropriate geoprocessing tool to use.
  • Given a scenario, use tasks, batch processing, models, or scripts to execute a complex workflow.
  • Apply raster functions for raster and image processing.
