Failing to publish survey (no error message)

Hi all,

I've been encountering issues with publishing surveys in ArcGIS Survey123. The error message is blank/not helpful (just a set of curly brackets). If I copy a survey the error follows it. Last time this happened, I tried deleting questions one by one to find where the issue was, but it persisted even with an essentially empty survey & form. I created a new survey and copied the questions in manually such that it was an exact copy of the one with the error, and was able to publish it. Now I encounter the issue again and want to actually solve it this time...

If anyone has any insights on what the issue may be/how to fix it, it would be much appreciated!

Hey @hjargis

Would it be possible to share the XLS? Sometimes the error may be easier to diagnose if we can see underneath.

Hi @CodyPatterson thanks for the response.

It seems like I can only open it in the web builder... When I try to download it to open in the Survey123 app I get an error that the .json couldn't be found (got the same on both the desktop and android app), while it doesn't appear at all in the Survey123 Connect app. All permissions seem fine, so now I'm even more confused! Is there another way to download the XLS, purely from the web builder?

@hjargis ,

There have been similar cases reported to our support service team, and we are still working to determine the details. Could you reach out to Esri Support Service to assist with the investigation?

Hi, unfortunately I can't because I'm not an Authorised Caller as part of my organisation.

Hi @hjargis ,

We identified an issue that if there are any broken images referenced in the survey, the web designer would prevent the survey from publishing and report the `{}` error. A fix to this issue has been applied to the Survey123 website, can you please try again to see if it works for you?

Note: a broken image now will not prevent publishing and can display in the survey design so you can remove or fix it manaully.
