Hi Everyone,

I have two line shapefiles. One is my pipeline with all the attributes that i would like to keep and add to. The pipeline shapefile has multiple segments. The other is a similar shapefile (it is the same visually as the pipeline), but the only attributes are the soil type. So the pipeline shapefile has attributes for material type, size etc. The soil shapefile just has the soil type.

I have create fields in my pipeline shapefile attribute table for each soil type. I would like to know for each segment/attribute in my pipeline shapefile, what is the length of each soil type within that segment. so it would be referencing the soil shapefile to determine how many soils types are in one segment of my pipeline file and then report back what the length is.

Is there a tool or statistical summary that i can use that will perform this?

@mlanepbi The workflow is better handled through Linear Referencing (simple functions) and ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing (advanced functions).

You can get started with the following references:

Good luck - please post your findings!
