Calculate fetch from points to vector

Hello.

I want to calculate the fetch for point locations (from csv) in coastal areas to a shoreline vector i.e. calculate the distance from point along defined compass bearings to the shoreline. I've been doing this in R so far and setting up a arc-R bridge to move the shoreline vector (which is in the ArcAtlas catalogue) in to R to calculate. But it is very slow and seems to be missing a whole area of coastline giving incorrect results for certain areas of the world.

So it seems sensible to calculate the fetch in ArcGIS rather than moving the data.  However I can not see any suitable analysis tools and do not know where to start with scripting it in a notebook.

Can anyone help please?

Thank you

I created  a tool for creating lines of constant length at user specified angles, see my response to the question of GIS SE. Set a long length and then clip back is one solution? This tool expects the data in a projected coordinate system.
