Caculating Statistics On Already Mosaiced Raster

Hello!

Just for a refresh, Is it ok to calculate statistics on a mosaic raster, or should I have calculated statistics on the separate rasters beforehand?

Also, I know someone asked in 2011 on an old version, but if someone could tell me what to look for in case my statistics have already been calculated, thanks as well!

You can Calculate Statistics for a Mosaic Dataset as well. However, note "When using this tool to calculate statistics on a mosaic dataset, the statistics are calculated for the top-level mosaicked image, not for every raster contained in the mosaic dataset."

To calculate for each should I calculate them separately, then mosaic them?

Your mosaic dataset will have the option to "Calculate Statistics" see screenshot when right click in the Catalog, this will complete it for all records in your mosaic dataset.

Can anyone explain what "top-level mosaicked image" explicitly means? Which rasters will be excluded from the stats?
