After applying Symbology unable to Publish web layer

Hey all,

I have a feature that I cannot seem to get to publish to our enterprise server. If I export the layer to another feature it publishes. I can rename it and it still publishes.  Once I apply the symbology It begins giving "ERROR 001369: Failed to create the service. Failed to execute (PublishServiceDefinition)" The symbology isn't anything special, its simply using unique values of one of the fields of which there are only 5 values, each value applying a color to a polygon.  Any ideas what might cause this?

What data type is the field being symbolized on?
