Feature Service is invisible in ArcGIS.com but not ArcGIS Explorer Online

I've added several feature services to My Content.  When any of these feature services are added to an ArcGIS.com map they are invisible.  They are in the table of contents, and their characteristics can be changed (transparency, pop-up, etc.).  But nothing will make them visible.  I'm using the latest browsers (Chrome, Firefox).  I've tried from different computers with the same result.  Interestingly, when the feature services are opened in ArcGIS Explorer Online everything is fine.  What's going on?

Are these ArcGIS Server feature services or ArcGIS Online hosted feature services? Can you share the URL to the item or the web map that contains them? the web map and services would have to be shared publicly.

Thanks,

Mike

Okay, I made one of the feature services public (called "topocatchment").  It is a hosted feature service.

I can view the service without problem. I have no idea what's wrong. Can you try accessing it from outside your firewall, like from home? I wonder if something is getting blocked.  Can you describe the exact steps you are performing to view this service in the map? How are you adding it?

Can you try clearing your browser cache?

I'm having a similar issue. Web maps are visible in ArcGIS Explorer Online, but not in the ArcGIS.com map viewer.

These 2 maps are shared with the public, so don't understand why they won't display in map viewer.

Here's our home page for ArcGIS online:

I made the web map I created using topocatchments public.  It is called King County Catchments.  The same problem exists.  The catchments layer is invisible, regardless of browser or computer used.  The feature service was created from a zipped shapefile at the time the shapefile was added to My Contents.

Lucinda,

I was able to find this map http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=cd769ba1fbf44d3caee3c4fd54e97e84. Is this one that you are having trouble with? I can see the layer without problem. What browser and version are you using?

George,

I can see the shaded polygons in the web map. Are you able to view this map from your home? I wonder there may be some firewall issue with requests getting blocked. Can you see this page?

Yes, I can see it from your link, but this is not the same as the link that is generated now that we have an ArcGIS online subscription.

Link you sent: http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=cd769ba1fbf44d3caee3c4fd54e97e84

this works fine

Link from our home page on ArcGISonline:

http://wprd.maps.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=cd769ba1fbf44d3caee3c4fd54e97e84

this doesn't work

Everything is the same in these 2 links except for the addition of the subdomain wprd.maps.

Mike -

You seem to be right.  There is something the county firewall is doing to block viewing the feature service.  When a laptop is connected to the county network the layer is invisible.  With the same laptop connected via WiFi to the Internet the layer is visible.  Any suggestions regrading what needs to be done?

By the way, I can see the page you referenced.  It is a bunch of code.

George, you probably need to open something on your firewall.  You may need to talk to your system admin to see if they need to open up the firewall in some way. One thing you can do in Chrome is show the developer tools and see if you can see any error messages. Open the web map. Click the wrench, choose Tools and Developer tools. Then click the network tab and F5 to redraw your web map. See if you can see any errors.

Lucinda,

I am unable to see the map via your URL as your site doesn't allow anonymous access. I get challenged to sign in. What error are you seeing? I'm not sure why you can't see the layer.
