Field Maps - Increase Popup Title Length and Wrap Text

Popup Titles Need Wrap Text or Resize Pane OptionPopup Titles Need Wrap Text or Resize Pane Option

Use Case:
- We use FieldMaps for tracking treatments on invasive plants.  (15 field users across 2 non profit organizations and 1 tribe)
- Displaying the treatment polygons from multiple years at the same weeds site creates overlapping polygons.
- Users need to find information on the overlapping polygons but the truncated popup titles don’t allow for enough detail.
- Users must press on each feature to see more detail.  When there are many overlapping polygons, this is an annoying experience.  It’s resulting in a lot of complaints from field workers.
- There is no workaround.  Labels are not an option as the polygons overlap.
- There is currently no option to resize the popup pane and although this might work on a tablet, it would not be a viable option for a small smart phone screen.
- If text wrapping was allowed on the popup title, the user could easily scroll up and down through the popup pane and see rich detail on each of the overlapping features.

I would suggest that this feature be a standard design feature for the FieldMaps app, but if it would be more palatable for developers, the feature request could be implemented as an option in the Field Maps Designer, enabled on a per map basis.

Please review and implement in the next FieldMaps release, it has a large impact on our workflow and there is currently no workaround.  Longer popup titles with wrap text please.

Thanks for your review.

This would be a fantastic addition, our team occasionally has projects where many line features run tightly parallel and it can be tough to keep each feature's popup title distinct, especially when it's impossible to test the final output without saving the map, refreshing Field Maps etc. etc.. Adding a word wrap option in the designer would be fantastic; letting tablet users resize the feature selection pane would also be nice.

As a workaround, updating the symbology so that more info is captured in the polygons themselves might help here. Just eyeballing the example above, the plant species could be used as the fill color or perhaps a point fill symbol per species. That would leave plenty of room for the polygon tag.

@DavidSolari appreciate your comments and support.

I have resisted using colors for that layer because the map we use it in has a lot of reference layers.  You know how it is, there are only so many colors in the spectrum (visible to non color blind humans anyway) and users get overwhelmed when you use color in the symbols on too many layers.  If ESRI can’t get to this upgrade because they are understaffed though, I will take your suggestion and play with it.

Please wrap text everywhere always!  Attribute table I'm looking at you.  But seriously just make it a standard habit.

Fully back this idea (and @DougBrowning's sentiments!) - text wrapping is needed in Field Maps Popups. It's very difficult to be efficient when you can't determine which feature you need from a list of truncated feature titles.

Just to add some context to this thread.  The screenshot shows how our maps incorporate reference layers.  With all of these reference layers, I like to keep the symbology pretty minimal for each data layer.  That's why there really isn't a great workaround for lack of wrap text in Popup Titles.

I also agree with @DougBrowning and @LindsayRaabe_FPCWA that word wrap for the data form would make Field Maps more useful for fieldworkers.

Again, these upgrades could be optional checkboxes within Field Maps Designer, so I really don't see the harm in incorporating these into the next release of Field Maps.

If someone from ESRI could respond and let us know if this should be split into two different idea threads or if I could change the title to basically say "Field Maps, wrap text everywhere!" or something like that.

Thanks for your review.

We could really use this in our up and coming field season.  Any chance that someone from ESRI has looked at this suggestion and can comment, thank you,

We would really appreciate text wrapping in both popup titles and attribute tables too! I’d love to stop awkwardly wording my popup titles just to get the unique part first so it will show in the list of results.
