Thumbnails only show up on Enterprise Sites when logged in

I've gone through all of the Enterprise Sites documentation that I can find, and there is no explanation for an issue I'm experiencing. I set up a Sites page and added a Gallery, being sure to check the option to show the item's thumbnail instead of the icon for an app. It looks great ... until I log out of Portal. Then all of the thumbnails disappear and are replaced with icons. My Site is set up to be visible to everyone, as are all of the apps in the Gallery.
