Our systems are going through a domain change as part of a structuring exercise. As a result, our three machine deployment of ArcGIS Enterprise will be moved to another windows domain. The machines will be moving from hostname.domain.us to hostname.domain.it domain.

Is it possible to reconfigure ArcGIS Enterprise after this domain name change and ensure it keeps functioning without issues?

Here are a few steps that come to mind to go through this process:

  • Change service account for Portal, Server and DataStore VMs (currently uses domain account)
  • Run the configureserviceaccount utility on all three VMs to update to new domain account
  • Update SSL certificate in IIS (wildcard certificate is procured)
  • Update SSL certificates in Portal + Server + DataStore
  • Reconfigure webadaptor of Portal
  • Reconfigure webadaptor of Server
  • Validate all registered data stores in ArcGIS Server Manager
  • Re-register the data stores in ArcGIS Server Manager as required

Any help, suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Hi Anand,

My recommendation when changing machine names is that you have to do a fresh install of the software. Why? The reason is that ArcGIS Enterprise writes the machine name to deep parts of its configuration.

You can change the name of an ArcGIS Server node but not Portal, so you will be stuck with that at least:
