I tried to publish a simple small shapefile to the hosting server from Portal. I am using "Add from My Computer"

I received the error 999999, Error executing tool. Publish Portal Service Job ID:j1a2b......, Error executing function, Bad syntax in request (status code 400). Failed to execute (Publish Portal Service). The source of the error is: System/Publishing Tool. GPServer.

I am able to user arcmap and publish service to the hosting server as feature layer. Therefore, the hosting server and the datastore appears function properly.

I really don't know where to look for the solution. Wonder any one had similar problem for the Portal 10.6.1.

The issue was solved. Based on ESRI suggestions, I did the following steps

1. unregistered datastore with hosting server

2. reregistered datastore with hosting server

3. stop/start PublishingTools on hosting server manager

4. stop/start PublishingToolsEX on hosting server admin

I have the same issue, can not publish a hosted service from portal, testing using a simple csv file that someone else used successfully on their portal/server. I ran through the 4 steps listed above with no luck, any suggestions?

Duane,

Did you ever successfully publish to the hosting server? My problem was after the upgrade from Portal 10.5 to 10.6.1. It was working when I use 10.5. So the 4 steps fixed the problem caused by the upgrading.

If your hosting server never work, it might be the trust among Portal, Hosting Server, Data Store have issues. It is possible caused by the certificate. Configuring the portal to trust certificates from your certifying authority—Portal for ArcGIS (10.6)...  I worked with my IT infrastructure expert to set that up.

Alex,

Thank you so much for your post. I was having an issue with being able to publish hosted feature services after upgrading from ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6 to 10.6.1. I was getting a completely different error message than what you had, but doing step 4 from above fixed the issue. I had already restarted the PublishingTools service but forgot about the PublishingToolsEx service since it does not show up in server manager.

How exactly do you access the PublishingToolsEx service if it is not available in server manager and the Portaladmin webpage does not have a services link under Resources?

The PublishingToolsEx service is only accessible through the ArcGIS Server Admin site under the Services/System section. However, restarting that service has not been a permanent solution for me. I still have the PublishingToolsEx service crashing at times. I restart the service again and that clears up the issue for a while.

Joshua:

Thanks for the information.  I did not think the AGS Admin site was available (I thought the Portal Admin site replaced this functionality when Portal was included) and I have now been able to get access to the AGS Admin site.

I have a very basic Enterprise setup at this time.  When the software was initially installed and configured, the ArcGIS_Data_Store which appears as a Managed Database was able to be validated.  I then went through some publishing workflows to both the federated server as well as the associated portal which were not working at first.  After this was fixed I then tried to publish a hosted feature layer and it failed.  The ESRI tech support specialist then tried to validate the ArcGIS_Data_Store again and it failed.  Has that ever happened to you where the ArcGIS_Data_Store was validating correctly and then all of a sudden it was no longer validating?  If so, what did you do to resolve the issue?

Sorry but of the many issues that I have had with ArcGIS Enterprise that is not one of them. So far, my ArcGIS Data Store continues to validate correctly. Every upgrade I have done for ArcGIS Enterprise has broken things that used to work just fine. It has gotten to the point that I will not be doing an in place upgrade of ArcGIS Enterprise, but will start over with a fresh install the next time I move to a newer version.

In my experience I would be very careful not to put any critical data solely in the ArcGIS Data Store. When I upgrade to 10.6.1 all of our existing hosted feature services got stuck in a weird state where ArcGIS Portal thought they were regular feature services and ArcGIS Server thought they where still hosted feature service. We can view the data but we can no longer manage those hosted feature services. New hosted feature services are working correctly so far.

So now you be always be starting with a fresh install when you move to a newer version due to all the issues that you have encountered.  What is your mechanism to get all the content, web maps, and web apps from the older Enterprise deployment to the newer Enterprise deployment?
