Using a proxy server to connect to the internet
A proxy server is a computer on your LAN that allows you to connect to the Internet without compromising the security of your internal network. If you'll be consuming ArcGIS Server services and your organization uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet, you need to make sure adequate information is provided about the proxy server.
The proxy server used by ArcGIS Server is the one specified in your Windows Internet Options.
To connect ArcGIS Server to a proxy server, follow these steps.
Follow through the steps below:
1-On the machine running ArcGIS Server, log in using the ArcGIS Server account. This is an important step, since the proxy server settings need to be applied using this account in order for ArcGIS Server to communicate with the proxy server effectively.
2-From the Start menu, choose Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings.
3-Check the box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN.
4-Enter the address and port number for your proxy server. When you're finished, click OK.
5-From the Start menu, choose Control Panel > Credential Manager.
6-Click Add a generic credential and then specify the credentials to your proxy server. These settings will vary depending on your proxy server configuration. Contact your system administrator for details.
7-Test the connection to your proxy server. You can do this by opening a browser (such as Internet Explorer) and navigating to a web site. If the connection is set up properly, you'll be able to access the web site or be prompted to provide proxy server credentials before the web site opens.
8-Repeat these steps for the remaining GIS servers in your ArcGIS Server site.
