Hi,

I am trying to figure out how to publish a service to ArcGIS Server directly from ArcGIS Pro. I found out how to make the connection to the server and how to share my map as a webmap. So now I want to know if there is a way to publish the same map via ArcGIS Server.

Thanks a lot for your help!

I presume that it is not possible  to share the map as a mapservice to ArcGIS server from ArcGIS Pro . For that we have to use the regular ArcMap Desktop product.

You are right Mahender. You cannot publish services directly to ArcGIS for Server using ArcGIS Pro. If you have Portal for ArcGIS, you can publish hosted web layers from ArcGIS Pro. You can also use ArcGIS Pro to publish hosted web layers to your ArcGIS Online organization. All sharing options are available on the Sharing tab.

Joanne,

What does this mean for the traditional ArcGIS Services?  Are these going to fade away?

We are struggling a bit at the moment as we need to publish Scene Services - which requires Pro - and hosted server - but all of our other data is shared via traditional services and ArcGIS Desktop...

Should we be looking at a mass migration from current approach to hosted services over the next year or two?

Hi Brian,

I contacted Philip Heede regarding your question. There are no plans to retire or deprecate ‘traditional’ (or non-hosted) services. The different kinds of services have very different use cases and will exist side by side for a long time to come.

Brian Boulmay and Mahender Rajendran and Gabriel Yarlequé:

I would add to Joanne's reply, which is completely correct as of the current release, that you can see an evolution of this in the Pro 1.2 and ArcGIS 10.4 for Server releases scheduled for the upcoming months.

Pro 1.2 will be able to share maps and layers to ArcGIS for Server deployments using Portal for ArcGIS- or phrased with traditional Server terms: publish dynamic map services to Servers federated with Portal for ArcGIS. Please see the ArcGIS 10.4 pre-release is now available | ArcGIS Blog  for more information including how to access the Pro 1.2 beta.

Cheers,

Philip

Thanks for providing feedback! Actually, I heard that if you have a federated server, this is actually possible.

You can't publish directly to the federated server from ArcGIS Pro. That is, you can't create a publisher server connection directly to the federated server like you can in ArcMap. You can add a portal connection and publish hosted web layers/services (web tile layers and web feature layers) from ArcGIS Pro to the federated server that can host services.

agree, you need to create a portal connection in order to do that!

I just realized that when you connect to ArcGIS Server, the connection shows as a user connection, even though I used my arcgis server administrator credentials. Do you guys have any idea why? In ArcMap, if you want to connect to the server it gives you the options for user, publisher or administrator. Also, as a user in ArcGIS Pro, you are not able to delete services directly from the project pane. Thanks for your comments!
