Sharing Map Image Services in a Collaboration

Hello,

I am having some trouble setting up a collaboration workspace that allows our Enterprise deployment to share Map Image Services with ArcGIS Online. Here are some details on our problem:

  • I have two map image services hosted on our Enterprise's ArcGIS Server. These image services are built off MSSQL datasets and shared with the ArcGIS Server as references. In our Enterprise Portal, they appear as Map Image Layers.
  • These Map Image Layers are private items and are then shared with Groups that are subsequently hooked up to a collaboration workspace.
  • Our ArcGIS Online Organization is the host of the collaboration, and a workspace was set up allowing only the Enterprise participant to Send Content to ArcGIS Online. When the workspace group is empty in the Portal, syncs are successful.
  • Whenever we add the Map Image Layers to the Enterprise Group and try syncing the collaboration again, the sync fails.

We have tried stepping up new workspaces, leaving/rejoining, and sharing other types of data (feature layers) through the collaboration, but every single time the sync fails. We have no idea what is causing things to break down.

We have another, completely separate collaboration where we share the exact same map image layers to another Enterprise deployment, and things work totally fine. In this scenario, I am the Host and have the Allow participants to view services without signing into this portal setting set to Yes.

What are we doing wrong with the Enterprise to AGOL collaboration? As far as we can tell, AGOL does not have the Allow participants to view services without signing into this portal setting, and we cannot allow the Map Image Layers to be shared at the Everyone level due to the sensitivity of the data.

@GrantSmith122 you may get more information on the synchronization error by going to:

1.  https://<portal.domain.com>/<webadaptor>/sharing/rest

2.  Log into the Portal Rest API

3.  Navigate to Home > Portals

4.  Self > scroll down to the bottom and select Collaborations

5.  Go to Collaboration Workspaces > select the collaboration workspace > Sync Status

Hi @GrantSmith122,

Are you creating the collaboration with the option to reference or copy the data to AGOL?  If you are copying the data, you must have Feature Access enabled with Sync capabilities.

We are sharing as reference. The layers are fairly large and we do not want to copy the data.
