We are planning upgrading our Enterprise Portal by installing Portal and Server on new server machines and copying over our critical content. Basic question. Should we do it ourselves or engage with Esri or a 3rd party for guidance?

Hey @GaryBarden
This is definitely something that you would be able to undertake. I started out with zero experience myself and with informational documents, tutorials, and ESRI Community, I was able to get it sorted.
As with every big change, I would recommend performing a webgisdr backup along with an operating system backup. When performing the change, if the new machines are additional servers, you can always try deploying the backup on these two machines or migrate, and monitor their status before switching over. Even better if these two were additional machines, I would keep the older machines at their last image to be sure everything is working well.
You can do it! Always reference ESRI Support if needed, but I think this can be done.

First question, any reason why you cant upgrade in place ?
There is plenty of documentation now available for migrating content over, but it can get a little complex if you are not familiar with the process.
What Windows Server operating systems is your current Enterprise Portal environment built on (e.g. Windows Server 2022)?
I did this by myself last year. It's very easy. No prior experience with building an Enterprise from scratch, only operating and maintaining one. GIS stands for Google It Stupid, guides are very helpful 🙂
Thanks everyone. We are taking the approach of standing up new servers and doing a "clean" install based on recommendations from our IT team.
It sounds like getting to the point where the software is installed is pretty straightforward and we can then decide how we want to proceed with content migration and customizations.
