Move Portal Datastore from C: drive to D: drive

We have added a large 😧 drive to the virtual server where our primary Portal site is installed.  We also have ArcServer installed here (federated) and datastore for hosting capability (all Enterprise 10.5) We need to move the datastore to this 😧 drive (from the C: drive on the same machine) as we are rapidly running out of space.  Yes, in hindsight this should have been done at initial install.  Lessons learned...

I wanted to confirm that the steps to do this are essentially the same as those listed here, for moving the Datastore from 1 machine to another:

Move a relational or tile cache data store—Portal for ArcGIS (10.5.x) | ArcGIS Enterprise

It seems like it would be quite similar, but hoping to get confirmation before we map out an execute the move.

Thanks -

Allen

Hi, have you been able to transfer from C: to D:? How to do that? I've got the same problem.

Thanks,

Carsten

Hello Allen,

I would not recommend moving the entire installation from the C drive to the D drive but rather move the content of the Data Store from the C to the D drive. Since the installation files themselves take up very little space there is little reason to reinstall the Data Store on a secondary drive.

The steps to do this can be found here:

Please let me know if this was helpful.

It appears that this technical article has been archived.

Is there a new process or recommended best practice to relocate datastores on the same PC?  Or is this the only option (Move a relational or spatiotemporal big data store—Portal for ArcGIS | Documentation for ArcGIS Ente... )?

Thanks in advance for any new information.

Same question here, what is the best practice for 10.8?

Here is the (new?) HOW-TO article:

How To: Move ArcGIS Data Store from one location to another, for example C: to 😧

But don't forget to scroll down to my other post in this thread before proceeding

I have a ticket in for this. If I get answer, I will post here for the thread. I'm using 10.8.1.

These are the steps I was told to take. Hopefully it will help some others, too.

Assistance - Move Data Store from one location to another (ie C: to E:). Just spoke with you on the phone and wanted to send a follow up email.

My understanding is that you recently upgraded ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1 and decided to move the Data Store location from C: to E: drive. We don't public documentation, however I've documented the workflow we discussed:

(Note: In order to use the Data Store command utilities, open CMD.exe and change directory to <ArcGIS Data Store installation directory>\datastore\tools)

1. Make sure you have a backup of your Data Store (Relational and/or Tile Cache): Caution-https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/portal/latest/administer/windows/data-store-utility-reference.htm#E... < Caution-https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/portal/latest/administer/windows/data-store-utility-reference.htm#E... >
2. Unregister the Data Store: Caution-https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/portal/latest/administer/windows/data-store-utility-reference.htm#E... < Caution-https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/portal/latest/administer/windows/data-store-utility-reference.htm#E... >
3. Restore the Data Store and register it to the new location: Caution-https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/portal/latest/administer/windows/data-store-utility-reference.htm#E... < Caution-https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/portal/latest/administer/windows/data-store-utility-reference.htm#E... >
• For example: C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\DataStore\tools>restoredatastore.bat --target backupnameofthedatastore --source-loc C:\arcgisdatastore\backup\relational --data-dir E:\arcgisdatastore --server-url Caution-https://serverHostname.domain.com:6443 --server-admin arcgis --server-password password123
o [--target] will be the name of one the backups such as ds_uk0r1lfc-20160929040017869
o [--source-loc] should point to the old folder path containing the backups
o [--data-dir] will be the new Data Store location

Hi @RebeccaRidley .. I want to move datastore directory from C drive to D drive by following your steps. However,I got error on step no  3. Restore the Data Store and register it to the new location
"Error encountered: Failed to generate a token for the user. Incorrect credentials provided."

I used same Primary Site Administrator credential to log into server admin page.
