Legend label question

Hello,

I am using ArcGIS 10.1, and I have a polygon layer that is colour-coded to a specific style file based on a column (numeric codes) in the layer's attribute table. When I create a legend, the entries for this layer appear as numeric codes with the appropriate colour beside them, as expected. I was wondering if it is possible to somehow have the legend display these entries based on a different column in the attribute table (text explaining the numeric codes), but still have the layer symbology colour-coded based on the numeric code column? Thanks in advance.

This offers a way to do it manually. There may be automated solutions that exist that I am not familiar with.

You could associate a coded value domain, this way the description would show up in the legend.
