ArcGIS Datastore only supports Access ID and Secret Key for S3 vs IAM Role (You can do this in Portal)?

I wanted to know why ArcGIS Datastore doesn't support the use of IAM Role for access to s3 backup location? This capability is possible for s3 use in Portal and would be in line with AWS best practice.
