Hello,
We've been experimenting with Portal for the past year and we noticed lots of content that came with the installation (see attachment)
We were wondering if this content needs to remain in Portal or can we delete it?
If we need to keep it, can you please explain why this content is there? What is its value?
Thank you for your help,
Nancy

The content owned by the "esri_apps" user is related, but not limited to, the following;
It's not recommended to delete or alter any of the "esri_apps" content because it can stop Enterprise from functioning correctly, and there is no way to restore any of those items without reinstalling Portal for ArcGIS.
Yes it's by design that the items are "hidden" from view, to help make sure no one accidentally deletes anything. All content within Enterprise must have a tag, and there's no way to remove tags entirely after the fact.

Thank you for your quick response. Is it normal that we can't view these items or their item details? Another related question, can we delete the tags associated with this content? We just want to make sure it is hidden as much as possible from our users.
