At Server 10.1 we exposed some additional metadata about the layers for search.

Derek,
Yes, additional metadata has been exposed, but in ArcGIS Online, it looks like there's search functionality only is looking at the filename:
Go to My Map
Click Add
Click Search for Layers
Search in "A GIS Server"
Type in the URL for a server (in our case -
http://gismaps.vita.virginia.gov/arcgis/rest/services
)
Type "Analyst" in the "find" section.
For example, taking a look at one of our services (
metadata link exposed in 10.1
), it contains the information that I think you're referring to that was added in 10.1, but as an example, in AGOL, it appears that the search does not look at keywords, descriptions, etc, but only at the service name.
This would be a great addition and would enable people to more easily search for the correct servce(s) from a GIS Server.
