When using <uniquevalsfromfield> is it possible to have the "all" (<alloptiontext>) as the first (default) option and then have the rest of your values under that?

I know this can be done when using the <userlist> option.

Hi, when I perform a geometric search on the regular search widget it highlights the layer (the red line in the pic) I'm searching for, but on your enhanced widget I'm not seeing the layer highlighted. It does work for the points.

I have been searching this thread, and things I tried were to add these two lines into my layer:

this is what the symbology looks like in the xml now:

So it looks like your layer is a polyline, so why are you using symbology for a polygon? If your layer is a polyline then if you change your XML for that layer to use a polyline symbology than you should be fine.

Ok, that is good info. Sorry, I'm new to GIS. So, to get it to work, I changed it to this:

Some changes/enhancements for 3.6.7 I have introduced since I have been using the widget since 3.6.2.
Use with the uniquevalsfromfield configuration option. Tested and works since ArcGIS 10.0 SP5.
For optimal performance use an SDE datasource.

I have already customized the widget with generous help from Robert (see here: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/109735-eSearch-widget-combine-graphical-search-apply-buffer-and-intersect-results). Now I want to do a little more. Is there a way to replace the drop down list in the graphical search tab with text? My widget only searches one layer and selects features within a buffer in one other layer. Currently, the dropdown shows both layers, based on what is in the configuration XML. True, the desired layer is on top and selected by default, but my customer does not want to see the other layer.

Hi Robert,

In Flex 3.6, there seems to be a conflict among your 3.6 custom widgets (eSearch and Streetview) and the Edit widget. Using the Edit widget after using either one of the custom widgets (such as doing a search and clicking on the results, or starting a street view) renders the Edit widget's attribute table to not open. Removing the custom widgets or using Edit widget without using the custom widgets, the attribute table will open just fine. (They were working fine in 3.3.)

Can you please help us look into the issue?

I have not been able to duplicate your reported issue using the eSearch Fixed datagrid or the StreetView widget... Are you really talking about the AttributeTableWidget or the edit widgets popup window (as you have indicate in your image)?

It is the edit widget's popup window; the Edit Widget's (Attribute) popup window does not open when the eSearch or Streetview is used/accessed before the Edit widget is.

I promoted the application and therefore, widgets through the upgrade process from 3.3 to 3.6. Perhaps, that's what broke them, because they were working fine in 3.3. I will try rebuilding the app again and see if I still have the issue. Thanks for your help, Robert.

Hi, I hope I can ask this clearly.

I need to make 3 drop downs, one for jurisdiction, one for cities, and one for counties. As you select the top one, it would then populate the next drop down of counties in that jurisdiction, and then when you select the county, it would populate the next drop down with the cities.

This data is coming from the database, and then the user could search the map for layers based on the drop downs selected and a spatial overlay/intersect of the geography.

So, my question is, how can I get started extending your tool to do that? Do I need FlashBuilder?

The widget is not currently capable of your desired workflow. So yes you would need Flash Builder and a good deal of Flex programming knowledge to be able to accomplish your workflow. You should really consider some much easier flex programming task to cut your teeth on if you have no Flex programming background, because this one will not be simple by any means.

To fix my last posting if anyone has used this yet.

The attached ZIP file contains the compiled versions of the swf files, compiled with Flash Builder 4.7 (64 bit) using the Flex 4.6.0 SDK.

Some warning: After rigorous testing it was found that the SearchWidgetFixedDG.swf widget broke if compiled with the Apache Flex 4.12.0 FP11.1 AIR4.0 en_US SDK (for other devs trying any enhancements). Sorry for any inconvenience.
The swf file can now be dropped into the standard Flex Viewer distribution.

Then use the uniquevalsfromfield option and it will not poll the server 1000 (or whatever your setting is) results at a time until done.
This is optimally used with an SDE database backend (tested with Microsoft SQL, Oracle and PostGIS).

I used it against a layer with 270000+ Cadastre land parcels.

I hear your concern. Herewith my suggestion.

To support backward compatibility I suggest you add another configuration tag to your widget xml configuration file.
Something like backwarduniqueness, but I am sure if you implement this you will conjure up an appropriate tag name.
I am not sure if the Flex API exposes the REST version, I did not see when I looked. If the Flex API exposes the REST version you could perhaps use this.
The way I perceive things you only have to concern yourself about ArcGIS 10.0 services to preserve the backward compatibility.

To assists you in this particular API call change, I have tested the update in the following environments:
ArcGIS 9.3.1 SP2 - The underlying REST API does not support the call.
ArcGIS 10.0 SP5 - 1000 rows are returned. The rows are not unique, however at least the API call does not crash.
ArcGIS 10.1, 10.2, 10.2.1, 10.2.2 - The Flex API correctly returns a list of unique values in one call.

P.S. Your Identify and eSearch widgets absolutely rock...keep up the excellent work.

Hi Robert,

Wonderful widget and thank you for all your efforts. I cannot get the sum feature to work. I've Googled around and cannot find a working example anywhere to see the desired results.

From the service REST end-point, I verified I'm trying to sum a numeric field, I also edited any null values to 0 in the database.
BOOK_COST ( type: esriFieldTypeDouble , alias: BOOK_COST ).

Also, I understand summing a single field but does that mean only 1 field can have a sum?
In other words Can I individually sum a value field and a population field on the datagrid.

I've attached the config and a screenshot of what I'm getting for a result.

* Fixed a bug with sum field when the format was currency.
* If the selectedgraphicaltool has been specified or you have already used a graphical search tool
when you switch to the graphical search tab that tool will be selected automatically.
* Uniquevalsfromfield now optimized to use returnDistinctValues if the server version is 10.1 or greater
(this means no paging and faster unique values). Thanks to Daryl Anderson for this idea.

Hello everybody! Sorry if my question is repeated, but I don´t find the answer.

I have a map service with subtypes, for example:

CODE   DESCRIPTION
0    - Rumbo
1    - Foliacion
2    - Fractura medida
3    - Fracutra vertical
...

And I want that the user can write in the text box something like : "fractura" and the widget shows both restults: "Fractura medida" AND "Fractura vertical", this is, that the widget search also by Description, this is possible??

I tried with: usesubtype="true" in my <value> inside <expression> but it seems it doesn´t works or probably I´m doing something wrong. This is my query, I know that I search only by the code with that, maybe there is the mistake: TIPO = [value]

Javier,

Subtype descriptions are only used when displaying the results. The decsription does not come into play when doing the actual search as that description is not the actual value that is stored in the database record.

I've got everything working except being able to arrange my fields from a resulting search. I've narrowed it down to an issue with double quotes being in the sde table name. <fields all="true"> works and displays all the desired results. <fields all="false"> with the desired arrangement works for fields from a non-related table. When I add fields from the related table, the xml is invalid because of the quotes in the middle of the string. My sde table naming convention is similar to the following:

sqldatabasename."domain\owner_name".tablename.fieldname

It is my understanding the related fields I wish to add and format have to contain the full path name. This results in the following code string:

<field name="sqldatabasename."domain\owner_name".tablename.fieldname" alias="Field Name" gridfield="true"/>

The problem becomes that the field name has quotes inside of quotes, which is an xml code error. Are you aware of any work aroundfor this issue? I have searched the esri forums and google to no avail. I have attached a capture of the endpoint and the code. In the code I have commented out the offending field names and it works like this, of course minus the fields I commented out.

Yes, I have tried single quotes and no (extra) quotes at all, as well as switching single and double quotes. I tried double, double quotes and the &quot command for xml. Also tried brackets and parenthesis. I finally got an error saying invalid sql statement. It may not be xml formatting but sql causing the problem.

Still working on it but I figure I'm out of luck on this one short of recreating the sql database using sde instead of the dbo. Not worth the effort for that since fields all=true works. It just not as pretty.

I always thought it strange that esri will prevent you from creating a field name with special characters like that but they do it themselves...
