Which Distance Tool to Use?

Hi,

I have a point dataset which I want to calculate and append, for each point, its nearest distance to the boundary of a polygon (shapefile).

I did a search for tools and I didn't realise there were so many in he Toolbox! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've started using ArcDesktop 10.1 which has added to my confusion.

I believe you are looking for in ArcToolbox go to, Analysis > Proximity > Near

In the perfect world of ArcInfo / ArcAdvanced, that would be a breeze. But I only have ArcEditor / ArcStandard.
