Getting Feature layer metadata from a map service to Geoportal

Hi,

I have a map service (with two feature layers) published and hosted in an ArcGIS for Server. When I register this service with geoportal server, only the service level metadata is copying to geoportal database. How can I acccess the individual feature layer metadata (created in ISO standard) from an ArcGIS Server service?  I found options with geoportal to upload the individual feature layer metadata or batch publishing of metadata using publish client. If i do so how can I get the Rest URL of the individual feature layer?
