ArcGlobe - Point features "extruding" underground show still show above ground

I am currently building a fly through of monitoring wells. In ArcGlobe the wells are symbolized by their depth drilled and when flying under the surface it looks great. The problem I am having is that when the view is above ground, the point's negative extrusion is still showing. I've attached a screen shot of what it looks like. I would like to not have them show at all above ground.

In layer properties I have found an option under Globe Display called "Floating Layers" and it reads See-through position (+ is above globe surface) but when I change that option to a negative number, nothing changes in the globe view. I am stuck :confused:  any help would be much appreciated!

There is documentation on how to create a group animation and one of the options is to turn the layers on and off.  Per the help, you can create tracks that successively turn visibility on and off for each layer within the group.

If I understand correctly, you are suggesting adding in terrain of my own that will relate better to the point file? I just tried that and it actually made things worse, in the sense that more of the downward extrusion would show through the aerial. I will play with it some more and see if there is something I am missing. Thank you for the help jbswain 🙂

In the meantime, I found a work around for my problem. Instead of using ArcGlobe to record the fly through video, I used an external recording program and turned layers on and off as it went through the key frames. It actually worked really well and gave me a lot more control of how things looked.

I don't know if this is already a feature in ArcGlobe that I haven't discovered, but it would be cool to have the ability in the ArcGlobe animation manager to have layers turn on/off at certain times during an animation timeline.

It looks to be a discrepancy between the ground elevation used for the points and the one used in ArcGlobe.  For the best results, I would recommend if you are using custom zs for the points to also use the custom DEM in ArcGlobe to display.
