Start tracker when esritask_status is set to 'In Progress'

We have a few clients that use complex dynamic geofences, or post-processing FME, or just asking them to remember to turn Tracker on and off when they accept and complete a job, in order to start and stop Tracker. It doesn't always work as expected

One of the Field Workers suggested today this could all be overcome if Tracker just starts automatically when the accept a job (ie esritask_status = 2) and then turned off when they completed it (ie esritask_status = 3)

Genius!

So, is that something that could be possible to include in Field Maps?

Hey @ChrisDunn1 . We got it going. I made the mistake to begin with of trying to make it work by using the expression in the action, but it turns out all we needed to do was use the dropdown options in the filter. I didn't try that initially because i had no idea that "is scurrent user" was an option. It would be cool if that could be in Map Viewer filters as well!

Anyway, thanks heaps for your help. This is just what we need and it seems pretty reliable so far.

Ahhhh... interesting workaround. So if i make the geofence so it only applies to tasks points that are assigned to that user and status = InProgress, i can make the buffer so it covers the whole region and no matter where they are, it will trigger the tracker when they change it from Assigned to InProgress?

Hey Scott,

One way you could achieve this is with a geofence. If you enable geofences on the Task layer and use the filter to only include tasks with a certain status, and set the geofence to turn on location sharing when the user is within it, then when the task status is changed location sharing will start (as long as the user is within the defined radius of the point), and then when the status is completed, location sharing will stop. That should be applicable to most configurations, but let me know if that workflow doesn't work for any reason.
