can't see offline map area created on website on the mobile device until another area is created on mobile device

I finally got through all the hoops to create an offline map area. Having our Portal admin look at the error logs to see more than just "Failed" was helpful and led to this https://support.esri.com/en-us/knowledge-base/error-failed-to-create-replica-multiple-layers-are-refe-000027576 -- I had more than one layer pointing a source. Why can't I do that?). Anyway, I created an area using the web interface, but now when I go into the app, I don't see the already created area. It's only after I choose Add Offline Area and then Download Area do I see the already created area. So I hit Stop Download on the new area, and then I can download the already created area. But if I don't do that, and then go back to Maps, there is again no option to download the already created area. I again have to create one on the mobile app, which defeats the purpose of "precreating" an area. Why is this interface so confusing? Why can't I just precreate an area for our users to see and download directly, without having to jump through these hoops?

Did you share the map with the organisation or a group and is the user which you are using in field maps member of this group? Saw something similar today in my tests and noticed the webmap was not shared and after sharing the offline map area became visible.

Yes, it's shared, but it's my item and I don't see the offline area myself.

The offline map area is a hidden item in your portal. Maybe this hidden item isn't shared properly? You should be able to find this hidden item by inspecting the network traffic in your browser, look for relationships in the url and get the related itemid's from there in field maps designer.

Go to the webmap item page in Portal, then manually replace the item id from the webmap in your browser address bar with the related itemid and the hidden map area will show, you can then check if the sharing is the same

I tinkered with Developer Tools but it's really beyond what I should have to do here to just make an offline area visible in the app on my iOS device, not the browser.

Hi @PaulCone2 When you go to the Field Maps app, do you see the label Offline Areas under the name of your map? Once you create the offline areas using Field Maps Designer or in Map Viewer/Portal the offline area should show automatically in the app. One thing that does come to mind is to make sure that you refresh your maps in the app if you are already signed into the app. When you are on the browse screen (where you see a list of all the maps available), pull down on the screen to refresh your content. If you didn't do this before, that could be why you didn't see your offline areas available. If you did refresh and you still aren't seeing your offline areas, contact the Field Maps alias (arcgisfieldmaps@esri.com) and we can try some additional troubleshooting.

It's strange, I put this down for a bit and came back to it, deleted and recreated the offline areas, and now they are showing up.

Another thing I discovered is I had a layer with labels in the map, and visible in the browser in the offline area drawing tool, but they wouldn't label in the offline area on the device. I had to go all the way back and republish the feature service to get them to show up.

Jumping on this thread to mention that I encountered the same behavior described by @PaulCone2 - I created an offline area that was available in Field Maps for a while (I was even able to download it) but at some point it disappeared from Field Maps and the map with the offline layer did not include any offline areas (it appeared just like maps without offline areas in Field Maps). I had to create an offline area and start downloading it from the mobile device in order for the originally created one to show up as available to download.

Is there a bug report for this somewhere @KerriRasmussen ? I initially assumed it was acting strange because the recent update evidently caused some severe issues, so I figured that additional changes were being made, but evidently this behavior exists outside of any recent updates/issues.

Additionally, I also had an issue with labels! In my case it was labels for a Vector Tile layer not displaying in the offline area, I had to replace the Vector Tile layer with the hosted feature layer it was drawn from in order for the labels to display in the offline area.

EDIT to add that after downloading the original offline area as described above, it is now taking up double the file size that it should - so clearly it remained on my device after disappearing from the display in Field Maps, and has now been downloaded a second time. Will create a bug report if there isn't already one for this...
