How to update a locator geocoding service published in from ArcMap to ArcGIS Server

Hello,

What is the best method to updating locators that have been published as services?  We have ArcMap 10.8.2 and ArcGIS Server 10.8, and do not have portal yet, so I could not share the locator as a service through ArcGIS Pro.  I published the service from ArcMap to our ArcGIS Server.  I copied REST endpoint URL to add to our Geocoding services through AGOL admin settings.  After confirming that the locator service worked, I attempted to rebuild the locator in ArcMap, which is the source of the published service, and I received this error:

If there is a trick to rebuilding this locator while published as a service, please enlighten me.

You would have to stop the service before rebuilding the locator in ArcMap. If you are using ArcGIS Pro 3.0 or later, you would not be able to add the locators created in ArcMap with the Create Address Locator tool to publish them from ArcGIS Pro. However, if you have locators built with the Create Locator tool in ArcGIS Pro you an publish it to your standalone Enterprise 10.8 server using the steps described in the following topic, https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/sharing/overview/publish-a-geocode-service.htm. This service can be used in ArcMap through and ArcGIS Server Connection.
