Getting the feature ID from login

I'd like to be able to get the current user who is logged in and then update a value in a feature layer with that logged in user.

We have a tracking layer that is joined to a table via GeoEvent Server that adds additional information like call sign and unit type.

Is there a way to get the user name, query the feature layer and update a value via a QR code?

I see that there is a way to update a feature but I won't know the global id of the user.
