How to create a open pit and insert it into ArcGlobe

Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible to insert a open pit into ArcGlobe.  I am trying to insert several open pits into ArcGlobe landscape.

Well, if you do not wish to modify your DEM or use it all together...

I assume you've established Z values for your 'pit' vertices, which I also assume are polygonZ shape? Go in an edit session or through python and change the Z values to your desired negative value.

You can then create a TIN (using a polygon 'pit' as a hard clip) and then TIN to Raster (DEM). Do that for all your pits, then loading those rasters into ArcGlobe as 'Elevation layers' sitting above the supplied 30m and 90m spatial resolution source data should in theory create 'pits' without having to modify or even use a DEM

Are you supplying your own terrain data? If so, 'burn' the pits into your DEM- One way you could do this is convert polygons representing your pits to raster, using a depth attribute as your pixel value. Then subtract this raster from the DEM raster to get a final DEM.
