this kind of goes against the purpose of a coded value domain, but...
a single field, any way to allow users to:
1. choose from drop-down domain value
or
2. enter free text
appears that now, it's either option #1 or #2, not both.

This is only possible if you are using subtypes with your domains and off of the subtype 1 you have the domain listed in the template and subtype 2 there is no domain and its just a text field.

Is there any specific documentation on how to set up the subtypes? I tried to do this, but I get the coded value drop down list in both subtypes. I can't figure out how to get the text field in subtype 2. Below are some screenshots of my settings:
Subtype 1 - Coded Values with domain specified
Subtype 2 - This is where I want the free text. There is no domain specified but I don't know how to specify that it is a text field.
