Base deployment vs multi machine

Question

I know there are many possible configurations of ArcGIS enterprise but I was wondering if there were any sort of guidelines as to when certain setups would be needed. For example after 100 concurrent users a multi machine set up is best. In addition when looking at the system requirements only the portal page lists processor requirements, are there any other guide lines for the other products?

Can anyone recommend any training courses that would help me get a better understanding of this?

To add onto Derek's recommendations, I'd suggest checking out Phillip Heede's presentation at the 2018 dev summit -- gave a nice intro to architecting your deployment (http://proceedings.esri.com/library/userconf/devsummit18/papers/dev-int-032.pdf).
