Can I create an enterprise geodatabase having an ArcGIS server Workgroup licence?

This probably is a very stupid question.

So I have installed and authorized and ArcGIS 10.1 Server Workgroup standard licence.
Then installed Microsoft SQL Express 2012, connected from ArcCatalog to it. Both on the same machine.

Now i' trying to create an enterprise geodatabase on the sql server from ArcToolboxes- Data Management Tools- Geodatabase Administration-> Create enterpise geodatabase. Took the keykodes from: C:\\ Program Files\esri\licence 10.1.\sysgen......but then it says the keycodes are invalid :"invalid licene file provided. Please provide an ArcGIs for Server Enterprise keycodes file"

Does this mean that I cannot create an enterprise geodatabase while having ArcGIS server workgroup?

Solved the problem finally. The problem was what do you copy-paste into thet ArcSDE_Licence file. You have to copy from the authorization file just from the line that starts with sdeworkgroup, so NOT the entire content of the authorisation file.

Nope, you cannot. Sorry.

I have the same deployment as you. You have to add your new SQL Express instance to your Database Servers in Catalog, and then you just right-click that instance> 'new Geodatabase'.

Let me know if you are having any trouble adding your new instance.

First of all , thank you for the quick and kind reply.

second of all, did " add your new SQL Express instance to your Database Servers in Catalog, and then you just right-click that instance> 'new Geodatabase'" but I get this error message afterwards:"Failed to connect to the database. bad login user"

I did go to C:\ Program FIles\ESRI\Licence 10.1\sysgen and opened with notepad keykodes.txt.

Apparently after the third comma I do have a date, its' 29 jan 2014. So I assume the keycodes files is fine, I don't have to modify it. If not what should I do with it?

Plus: I did:

1. Open registry and you will notice that the entry 'ArcSDE_License' is missing:
'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE', 'SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSSQL$sqlexpress'

2. Now , manually create an 'ArcSDE_License' entry as New String Value. You will get the needed value
for this entry with steps below:
a. Use the following URL to generate ECP file: https://customers.esri.com/index.cfm...Authorizations
b. Modify and copy string from ECP file into the ArcSDE_License entry.

3. Relaunch ArcCatalog and one will be able to create a new geodatabase

and still didn't work. Same error "Failed to connnect to database. Bad login user. Succes:)))''
