ArcGIS Pro database connection issues

Question

In ArcGIS Pro we have an issue where connecting to the database takes ages and sometimes doesn't work at all. We're using an ArcSDE 10.3.1 SQL Server database. It works fine in ArcCatalog/ArcMap etc.

I haven't noticed any issues/differences between ArcGIS Pro and ArcCatalog connecting to SQL Server, at least not yet.

* Is it just connecting to browse data or is the data access slow once loaded in ArcGIS Pro?
* Are ArcGIS Pro and ArcCatalog installed on the same machine?
* What kinds of numbers are you seeing, specifically?
* Roughly how many tables are in the SQL Server database?
