REST endpoint CORS enabled test?

What I would like to do it have a test for determining if a REST endpoint is CORS enabled, if it is then add the domain to the corsEnabledServer array and if not then do something else, like use the proxy page. Does anyone know of a good function for testing for CORS? It seems like this should be a method in the ArcGIS Javascript API.

I used the javascript found at test-cors.org and built this little test page. Hopefully this will do. I'm not sure yet if it captures every possibility but it will work as a start. Does anyone have anything more elegant?

FYI, esri/request will detect CORS support.
