in the above image I have 5 polygon features, when create an a search cursor on this feature class & read it into a dictionary, as below:

[ATTACH=CONFIG]15560[/ATTACH]

the following is resulted :

[ATTACH=CONFIG]15561[/ATTACH]

as you can see, only the last value is there!

it is clear to me how to iterate a dictionary, but the question was about the ambiguous results in the screenshot.

I found a similar problem. If I try to save a set of shape objects in a dictionary or in a list, and query the area property of each shape object in the dictionary or list, I get the same value back for each: the area of the last one added.

How even a recycling cursor can change the property of an object already sitting in a list is not clear.

I see this happen even with out the dictionary: just creating a stand-alone object from the FC shape object:

objA = None
objB = None
sc = arcpy.SearchCursor(fc)
q = 0
for row in sc:
    q += 1
    print str(q)
    print str(row.SHAPE.area)
    if q == 1:
        objA = row.SHAPE
    if q == 2: 
        objB = row.SHAPE
    if objA: print "A " + str(objA.area)
    if objB: print "B " + str(objB.area)

output:
1
537522826829.0
A 537522826829.0
2
534121785657.0
A 534121785657.0 <-- Why did the area property of objA change?
B 534121785657.0

Querying the area property while the shape is still in the feature class returns the proper value for each,
and, of course, storing the area value (number) in the dict or list does not change it.

BUT
something happens when the shape object is out of the fc...

I have not yet tried storing the shape object in a dictionary, and then reading it into a new fc with an insert cursor.

Yes, it is a result of Python assigning variables with references, not copies. So, yes, as the cursor recycles, that one actual object is replaced (over and over) so all the referenecing variables are updating. Even using copy.copy() does not seem to help. Only a new cursor each time keeps things straight.
Glad to hear it is fixed before it became an issue for me....

So, do any of the 10.0 service packs resolve this issue, or is it only fixed in 10.1? Also, is there a work-around in Python (I realize this has been addressed but someone have discovered a solution since the original post)? Thanks.

Here is a code snippet (following Jason's suggestion) - it should work on any 10.0 service pack.

searchCursor = arcpy.SearchCursor(in_fc)

fc_dict = {}
for row in searchCursor:
    geom = row.SHAPE
    fc_dict[row.OBJECTID] = geom.__geo_interface__

# browse the dict and get back the geoms
for k, v in fc_dict.items():
    new_geom = arcpy.AsShape(v)
    print new_geom.area
