Need to base Hosted Feature layer on database data

I've been exploring my options for hosting a database table as a feature layer. The data in the table changes daily, so I really don't want to constantly upload a shape file. I figured out how to create a hosted feature layer, but have not been able to figure out how to sync the layer with the database table. Does anyone know if there is a guide or set of instructions for how to do so?

If you have a table (day in Oracle or any other database) and the table has a spatial component like SDO Geometry, you can create a Query Layer using the Make Query Layer tool. This layer can be published to ArcGIS for Server like any other layer and will point to the original data if the data store on the server in properly configured.

The problem with a hosted service is that ArcGIS Online will copy the data to the server and the link to the original data will be lost. As far as I know there is no data store configuration on ArcGIS Online. Alternative is to use some (Python) scripting to update the data of the hosted feature service. Storing a hosted feature service will consume credits.
