When exporting an ArcGIS Pro layout containing PNG images (e.g. Logo, Photo or Chart), I cannot open the generated PDF file. Export works fine without the image. It does also not work when using a TIFF or BMP image. However, it does work using a JPEG file. When opening the PDF file, the following errors occur: * A drawing error occurred. * Insufficient data for an image. The error occurs with different images from different sources. I am using ArcGIS Pro 2.2.4. Unfortunately, I do not have admin rights on this computer to upgrade to 2.3. My current workaround is using a JPEG image with an acceptable resolution. Hi, I have a few questions:

Are the images stored locally?
What are the export settings you are using?
Have you tried opening your pdf in another program?
Can you try printing to a pdf?

In reviewing some Support Service logs, one thing the analyst tried was using a different *.pdf reader such as SumantraPDF, muPDF and other free viewers. Do the error messages persist?

Sorry, for the delayed answer.

yes, they are stored in a sub folder within the project folder.
I am using Adobe Acrobat DC but I have tried to open it in the Google Chrome browser too.
I can't open the file at all.

Export options (but I have tried a few different combination; it never worked)

Compress vector graphics: No
Image compression: Adaptive
Layers and attributes: PDF Layers Only
Export map georeference information: Yes
Use password...: No
Resolution: 300
Image Quality: Best

Hi Robert,

The error persists unless I am using a JPEG image file. I am currently going with the workaround.

When I had this problem (ArcMap 6.1), the issue turned out to be my server connection. Once I saved the map to my hard drive and kept working on there, everything went smoothly again. Not sure that will be the same for everyone, but I'm throwing it out there just in case.

But unfortunately it will not solve my issue since the file is already located on a real hard drive.

I had this problem when making a pdf when using JPEG2000 image compressions. Problem went away using the standard JPEG compression.
