I have downloaded the OS Mastermap base map, but I only need a section of it to show the area I'm studying. Is there anyway of doing this?
I have had a look, but as a newbie to this software I don't understand what to do.

You can't clip the basemap, but you can clip the data-frame. Cliping Data-frame to Shape.
This will restrict the visibility of all the layers to the shape of the feature class/ graphics.
