Hillshading question- Start from a JPEG

Question

Hello everyone!

I am looking for some help..

A family member has asked me to hillshade a map for them. The problem is that I have only been provided a JPEG and co-ordinates of each of the corners. For hillshading, I know i need a DEM, but then i have 2 questions

1. How do I make the DEM be the exact co-ordinates of the JPEG?

2. Can I then use this hillshaded DEM and overlay the needed information from the JPEG?

You can connect to Esri World Elevation Services and use hillshade function. These are dynamic image service render derivatives on-th-fly, you don't need to store, process, manage DEM or derivatives locally. More here: Introducing Esri’s World Elevation Services | ArcGIS Blog

Your simplest solution is to try to locate a DEM for your area and you can hillshade it if you have the Spatial Analyst or 3D Analyst extension.

You can creat DEM from topographic map if you georeference it and digitize the isolines and altitude points making a shape files for example. Then you can use "topo to raster" function in ArcGis Desktop.
