I'm not 100% sure if this is more of an ArcGIS Online idea, or maybe a combination of both ArcGIS Online and StoryMaps. Please feel free to move it if this is not the correct place!
In the last year or so - we've been working on building a public StoryMap gallery of projects created by past users that we can share with the community. These projects live on long after the user/account may be deleted or expired.
- When the account is going to be deleted, the project is past onto a new owner - either maybe or another user - before the account is deleted
- Side note: I have users sign a form giving me permission to share these/edit/pass ownership as needed. Original user still retains all of the credit as the creator
In the Gallery on ArcGIS Online, it always displays the current owner of the project. But that person may not be the original creator, so I've been adding the original creator details to the description in order for it to show up if someone clicks on it.
I'm not as concerned about the profile that shows up on the top left of the screen if you open the StoryMap - but it would be potentially helpful to have a setting in the StoryMap that allows you to pick between the current owner or original creator of the StoryMap - and have this appear in the Gallery in ArcGIS Online.
- If that is not the easiest thing to do coding wise just because the account would technically be deleted - just having a setting to hide the owner in the ArcGIS Online Gallery would be helpful. The original creator name still appears on the StoryMap project itself, and that would be enough.
- Related note - I did a presentation on this gallery for a conference, and some people were asking if this would potentially confuse users into thinking that the owner was the creator, or that the owner was the new author, etc.
- We do not allow service accounts in our organzation - per our cybersecurity rules. So I can't setup an "archive@email.edu" kind of account as the owner.
