Field aliases in AGOL view or web map popup

I have a view on a hosted feature layer.

I want to either assign field aliases at the view level, or assign field aliases at the web map popup level, but not at the feature layer level. Reason: I want to display different field names in the web map popup that uses the view, but not in other web maps and experience builder apps that use the underlying feature layer.

Is there a way to assign field aliases at the view or web map popup level, not at the feature layer level?

It looks like I can simply change the alias in the view's Data > Fields screen.

I think I'd overlooked that previously because, at first glance, the change didn't get reflected in the pop-up in the web map. But I opened the pop-up properties pane, and that refreshed the field alias.
