Proportional symbols don't draw for polygon layer

Hi,

I have a join in the layer's attribute table that specifies the values that I want to represent proportionately. The map should show proportional symbols for the field "FY25". FY25 is joined to the polygon layer by the GIS_Group field. I select proportional symbols for the symbology and I can see the underlying polygons; however, there are no symbols above.

Okay, I found a fix. I took the layer with the joined table and exported it to a new polygon layer. This made all of the joined fields permanent. This time when I enabled proportional symbology, it correctly displayed all of my FY25 values on the map. Not sure why temporary join vs permanent field makes a difference, but it did.
