Web mapping application delete protection

I am currently having a cut down on my online content to reduce storage and been finding that a number of my web mapping applications are not deleting with the error message

" Items that are delete protected cannot be deleted."

The delete management toggle isn't switched on and I have even gone into the apps removed all the content and changed the Base-map to an online free version in case there was anything specifically in the app that is preventing it from being deleted but still had the same response. 

Has any one experienced this recently? or have a solution?

It doesn't seem to be one isolated instance I have found a couple so far that i want to remove and had the same issue and I imagine there are more apps with the same issue as i continue cutting down content

Hey @DanStow1 

This could happen for a multitude of reasons, sometimes, you aren't able to delete a web map and hosted layer at the same time, even though they aren't marked as prevented. To get around this, you can delete all the maps first, and then hosted feature layers, and then service definitions. You may try the reverse as well.

Along with this, do you have administrator privileges? There may be dependencies that cannot be broken without higher privileges, you also may need to change yourself to be the owner of these items if you aren't already.

If this still is causing issues, it may be related to the June update and could have broken a process, if all this fails, I would open a ticket with ESRI Support to see if they're able to get around it!
