When i don't preload the widget and open it i came across a warning:

I know it is in dutch, and i will try to explain it:

it says that the class widgets.AddExcel.LocateResult is used at a call from net.registerClassAlias() in _AddExcel_FlexInit. This will cause a leak by widgets.AddExcel:AddExcel uitlekken. Define widgets.AddExcel.LocateResult in the application at the highest level to fix the leak.

Have you seen this before, i just copied your exact code.

Or do you have a fix for this?

Thanks for the quick response. Currently I have everything reprojected to web mercator because I am just using the default basemaps. This includes my shapefile. Should I project all of my layers as NAD1983 and then change the WKID to 4269? I should clarify, Change the WKID inside the flex config file.

Ha so I figured out how to do this via opening the table and right clicking on the field and using calculate Geometry. Then using the data fram projection which I set to web mercator and the units to meters. Bawhaaa it gave me the correct coordinates for my stores. Now I need to automate that using VBA. Yes VBA. We are still using that and probably will be for a while. Not much of a fan of VB. Net or C#. Too much work to convert at this time.

Still have the issue for my users to upload thier information but baby steps

You could use ArcMap projection tool to re-project your stores FC to webmercator and add coordinates to it, then export the table. that would give you the "lookup table" that you mentioned.

So I got this bad boy to load up into 3.3! It actually even imports the points! Sweet! However, all of the points end up in the ocean. 😞 Bummer!

I've read the whole thread and it seems as though a couple of people have figured out to handle this. Currently my points are in esriSRGeoCS_NAD1983. I've tried several things to try and solve this issue. Any suggestions? I tried changing the wkid on the config file to 4326 and also 4269 and Flex just seems to hate that.

I want my users to be able to upload their own data. I can use ArcGIS server to upload any of my data. The key here is for my users to be able to upload their data. How do you handle this? How do your users get coordinates?

I was going to create a table that had our stores listed with the web mercator coordinates listed so they could just match it up with store number and their data. However, I can't figure out how to do this myself!

Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas. I would really love to have this feature as it makes a lot of sense.

I don't see them on the print either.

More testing, the "basic" print task seems to print them. It is when you use the print server ExportWebMapTask that it doesn't print the added icons.

I'm not real familiar with how to do this and figured/hoped someone else had already taken the steps to do this. If you have could you please take a moment to upload it for those of us who are not as experienced please. This would be a nice widget just to have with the main flex builder.

I've been having issues with the graphics created from this tool carrying over to any print output. The graphics seem to disappear when I print using the standard print widget. Is anyone else having this issue? Any workarounds?

Sorry its taken me a while to respond, i was not planning on upgrading my projects to 3.3 as 3.4 is out very soon and I just cannot keep up with how fast the releases are coming out. I have quickly thrown together a 3.3 project and recompiled the widget for you. I have not fully tested it but hopefully it should be ok.

The update also has a few additions and bug fixes:

Has anyone updated this yet? I am about to roll out a new product and this feature would be great to display using the new 3.3.

If someone has the time could you please post the importexcel for 3,3. I have a feeling quite a few of you have done this already and it would be greatly appreciated.

If you wish to map Decimal Degrees that are in the spreadsheet to a Web Mercator basemap (i.e. Bing), do the following:

Add the reference: import com.esri.ags.utils.WebMercatorUtil;
Change the gmapPoint variable as illustrated below:

var long:Number = Number(tempData.getItemAt(i)[longNumb].value);
var lat:Number = Number(tempData.getItemAt(i)[latNumb].value);
// var gmapPoint:MapPoint = new MapPoint(long,lat,new SpatialReference(4326));

Have not completely tested it to see if it breaks something else, but this seems to "fix" it.

I dont think any points are getting plotted in the place. You have 67 locations and 68 points are being plotted. I think the 68th point is the one getting plotted in the ocean. I suspect this is at 0,0 and what is happening is the for loop that plots the points is doing one to many and it is reading the empty row at the end of the data. When I get chance I will have a look at the code.

I'm getting all 67 points as well. the issue is that there is at least one point that is not plotting correctly. It's being put in the altantic ocean off the west coast of africa. not sure what is causing this. I'm getting it in your test viewer as well. Just not sure what is causing it so I can correct it.

I'm having some issues with the excel widget not recognizing the web mercator lat/long that I've inputted. It's only a couple points so it's not a major issue, but I'm unsure as to why those couple points are not plotting correctly. I'm attaching a copy of the spreadsheet I'm using for any feed back.

To achieve what you are after would require some sort of geocode server that holds your street names / junction names. What you would have to do then is for every street / junction name entry on your spreadsheet you would have to make a call to the geocode service to see if it has a match and if so return the coordinates so you could plot it on the map.

This is not impossible to do but the hardest thing will be finding a geocode service that suits your requirement (or host your own)

Ok, so I understand that these points are based on the initial map background's coordinate system, but out of curiousity is there a way to modify this widget to plot the points based on a street address or road intersection? I would try this on my own, but I'm not NEARLY compitent enough with this to even know where to start.

Yes there is. What ever you pick in the AddExcel.xml as the <message> tag in that file states.

This should work for you as a test. (as long as you haven't modified the addexcel.xml to change column names. I noticed if you have the wrong column names, it doesn't error out, it just throws the points in some arbitrary place over in Europe)

From your last post your applications spatial reference is Web Mercator so you coordinates in your spreadsheet need to also be in Web Mercator

If you have not specified a wkid in your map tag then the spatial reference ( coordinate system) of your application will be determined from the first base map that is loaded. Check the Rest endpoint for your first basemap this will tell you it's spatial reference.

Your coordinates in your spreadsheet need to be in the same coordinate system as your first base map

If by "Spatial Reference" you mean coordinate system, I'm not sure, and how would I verify that. I've tried all difference types of coordinates Decimal Degrees, MGRS, Easting/Northing. All show up in the same location no matter what order I put them in. Like I said the sample spreadsheet loads with no issue, All points show up in the Pacific NW. I tried to follow the same format as the sample when creating my own test points, but for some reason the point is located in the middle of the Altantic Oceans instead of central Pennsylvania.

I'm not sure where the issue is coming from.

I'm having a similar issue with the points in my spreadsheets not plotting correctly. the Sample that came with the download loads with no issue, but when I create my own the points end up in the middle of the ocean. I'm not sure where the disconnect is on my end. I've tried using several different coordinate types in the spreadsheet, but they all plot in the same area.

Any thoughts??
